Our Objective
Hawk Tail Brewery, an Alberta craft brewery nestled in the heart of Rimbey. Having recently opened their doors, the owners sought to capture the untamed essence of the Alberta prairies through their brand identity. They were looking to develop a signature style that could be implemented across their different aspects of their business.
Hawk Tail Brewery approached us with a clear mission: to create a brand that not only reflected their values but also hit motifs from the Alberta Prairies.
Our project together covered comprehensive services, including style discovery, packaging design, and web design. We began by guiding the owners through a brand questionnaire, helping them articulate their vision and values.
This formed the foundation for our subsequent style discovery process, where we presented various mock ups to visualize how different styles would integrate with their existing logo.
Through iterative refinement, we arrived at a signature style that embodied the natural, farmhouse aesthetic Hawk Tail Brewery desired.
One standout aspect of our process was the creation of a woodcut hawk illustration sourced from hawks native to the region.
This illustration became the cornerstone of the brewery’s identity, serving as a mascot that resonated with both the owners and their patrons. The final result was a cohesive brand style that exuded refinement while staying true to the brewery’s roots.
By embracing the natural beauty of the prairies, Hawk Tail Brewery gained newfound confidence in the brand. Throughout our engagement, we applied the logo and signature style to the following:
• 4 short can labels for signature series beers
• 4 tall can labels for signature series beers
• 8 tall can packaging for monthly small batch beers
• Website design
• Menu design
• Hawk Illustration
• Banner design for trade shows
The brand has become a staple in the central Alberta beer scene, and can be found at major retailers, including Liquor Depot, Sobeys Liquor, and Co-op Liquor Stores. The signature style is easily recognizable and makes for an easy choice when you enter a beer cooler after a long week looking for refreshment.
